Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium fitted with Daktronics mega-screen

Mount Smart Stadium, the home ground of the New Zealand Warriors, has been fitted with a new LED screen that is set to significantly enhance the game-day experience for fans of the rugby league club.

The screen has been supplied by video display and scoreboard specialist Daktronics. The club, which competes in Australia's National Rugby League (NRL), said the screen would be similar in size to those used at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium.

The 212-square-metre high-definition screen is said to be the biggest of its kind in New Zealand. The structure was lifted into position by giant cranes yesterday (Wednesday).

The screen itself is 11 metres by 19 metres. It will showcase live match action and replays of Warriors games, as well as scores, statistics and other stadium messages. The club’s managing director, Jim Doyle, said that installation work is set to be completed by the end of January.

“The screen is a fantastic development and something we know our members are really looking forward to,” Doyle said. “Watching it being installed on Wednesday you can finally appreciate just how big it is. We’re very excited about how much it’s going to enhance the game-day experience here at our home, Mt Smart Stadium.”

The Auckland-based Warriors are the only New Zealand-based club to play in the NRL, with the league’s 15 other teams plying their trade in Australia. The Warriors’ new screen will be used for the first time during the season-opener against the Newcastle Knights on March 5.
