Detroit unveils $100m stadium renovation

The Detroit Lions NFL American football franchise has announced that its home stadium will undergo a $100m (£80m/€94m) renovation.

Ford Field will see vast changes, including new video boards and an upgraded sound system.

There will also be complete renovations of the suites and a redesign and re-branding of The Corner Lounge, along with a new concept club without assigned seating, new spaces for suite and club members on the north side of the stadium, and an updated club space featuring separated box seating.

The renovations are set to be completed before the start of the 2017 season in September.

The two updated video displays, which will be twice the size of the current screens, will be the focus of the refurbishment. They will be located in each end-zone and flanked by four additional displays that can be used individually, or coordinated with the main display.

Other monitors will also be installed on columns close to one of the entrance gates and the main seating bowl.

“The Ford family is making a substantial investment to make sure our stadium remains among the best, but ultimately it’s still about winning football games,” said Detroit Lions team president Rod Wood. “We want to get fans in the building, having a great time and excited about what they’re experiencing so that they can continue to help us create a home field advantage.”
