Intel to boost Olympic stadium experience with IOC partnership

US technology giant Intel has revealed plans to use its new top-tier partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to enhance the experience of fans visiting venues at future editions of the Olympic Games.

Intel, which joins The Olympic Partner (TOP) worldwide sponsorship program, pledged to use its 5G platforms at the Games to demonstrate how this form of technology will transform communications over the coming years.

The 5G initiative is due to begin at next year’s winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Intel also plans to use drone light show technology to create “never seen-before” images in the sky above Olympic venues.

IOC president Thomas Bach said: “The Olympic Games provide a connection between fans and athletes that has inspired people around the world through sport and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

“Thanks to our new innovative global partnership with Intel, fans in the stadium, athletes and audiences around the world will soon experience the magic of the Olympic Games in completely new ways.”

Brian Krzanich, chief executive of Intel, added: “Through this close collaboration with the Olympic family, we will accelerate the adoption of technology for the future of sports on the world’s largest athletic stage.”
