Serie A newcomer given clearance for stadium renovation

Italian football club Benevento, which recently gained promotion to the country’s top-tier Serie A, has been given the green light to renovate and expand its Stadio Ciro Vigorito home stadium.

According to Football-Italia.net, the club has agreed a deal with the local council to assume control of the stadium for the next 20 years.

As part of the agreement, Benevento will expand the capacity of the stadium to 17,800 and refurbish certain areas of the venue.

Club president Oreste Vigorito said that work inside the stadium will be finished in time for the 2017-18 season and will comply with all regulations set by the Italian Football Federation.

Benevento will compete in Serie A for the first time next season after winning promotion via the Serie B play-offs in the 2016-17 campaign.
