Wasps fans set sail for the Ricoh Arena

Supporters of English Premiership rugby union club Wasps will be able to travel to home matches at the team’s Ricoh Arena by boat, under a returning initiative run in partnership with the Living Environment Trust.

‘Water Buzz’ will invite fans to journey to the team’s home stadium aboard the ‘Coventrian Narrow Boat’.

The canal boat, which features a fully licensed bar, will pick fans up at Coventry Canal Basin and make the 90-minute journey to the Ricoh Arena, arriving in good time before kick-off.

The Coventrian Narrow Boat will also make stops at Hawksebury Junction and The Greyhound Inn for supporters to board or exit, depending on their travel preferences. Fans that make the voyage will also be treated to a free pork and stuffing bap.

Supporters will have access to the waterways service at all home matches during the 2017-18 season. Wasps’ first game at the Ricoh Arena in the coming campaign is against Sale Sharks on September 2.

According to the Coventry Telegraph newspaper, Raffaella Tentindo, Living Environment Trust manager, said: “We have seen great demand for this transport service since we started to run it on Wasps rugby match-days.

“Last season was a record attendance year for fans coming to watch Wasps home games at the Ricoh Arena, the matches have become huge showpiece events in the Coventry calendar.

“If you’re looking for a unique and relaxing way to get to the games then this is definitely it, you can beat the crowds, drift by the traffic and still arrive with plenty of time to kick-off.

“It’s a great opportunity to talk with fellow fans and really get that ‘buzz’ before you’re even in the stadium.

“We’re expecting a lot of interest and I would encourage those thinking of joining us on The Coventrian to book their places early.”
