Angel of the Winds lands naming rights for Xfinity Arena

Everett’s Xfinity Arena in Washington, US, is to be known as the Angel of the Winds Arena with immediate effect.

The naming-rights deal was won by a casino and resort in northern Arlington called Angel of the Winds.

The establishment will pay $3.4m for naming rights of the publicly owned downtown Everett arena until 2028.

The new partner replaces Comcast’s broadband and cable TV service Xfinity as the title sponsor. The venue was first called Comcast Arena in 2007, with the name being changed to Xfinity Arena in 2014.

“Obviously, a naming rights sponsor is the largest sponsor we have in the building,” said Rick Comeau, general manager of the arena.

“It’s not just an advertiser in our opinion. It’s a true partner of the facility. We’re looking forward to that relationship with them.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Angel of the Winds, which is owned by the Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians, will see its branding on the outside of the arena. It will also feature on every ticket sold, as well as on the facility’s website.

“These kinds of opportunities aren’t this common,” said Shawn Yanity, chairman of the Stillaguamish. “You don’t get too many opportunities to market our casino, but also partner with an organisation like this. In a way, it’s a joint business venture. We’ll be working together. It’s nice to take advantage of this.”

Angel of the Winds has been a sponsor at the arena for the past five years and has already discussed hotel packages involving concerts and events at the arena with guests staying in its three-year-old hotel, according to the HeraldNet news website.

The arena has a capacity of up to 10,000 and hosts ice hockey games, as well as roller derby meets and other events.
