San Jose Earthquakes target fan engagement with revamped app

Major League Soccer franchise San Jose Earthquakes has teamed up with sponsor Avaya, a California-based technology company, to enhance the capabilities of its mobile app for the new season.

The new app debuted at the weekend during the Earthquakes’ season-opening 3-2 win over Minnesota United. Avaya holds naming rights to the team’s home ground, Avaya Stadium.

The app is designed to enhance the fan experience at Avaya Stadium before, during and after games. A new Ticketmaster SDK integration has been added to allow for easier ticket management, shorter lines and an easier transferral of tickets between family and friends.

The app also gives supporters the chance to view up-to-the-minute starting line-ups, team schedules and real-time scores and statistics.

San Jose has sold out 47 of 48 home matches over the past three seasons, and Avaya’s Aura and private cloud services are harnessed to deal with the demand for tickets at the 18,000-seat Avaya Stadium.

The team’s chief operating officer, Jared Shawlee, said: “Our partnership with Avaya has allowed us to create a mobile-first fan experience that is second to none. We’re proud that Avaya Stadium has become one of the premier sporting venues for fan engagement and innovation.”

We’re excited to see forward-thinking franchises like the Earthquakes use our technology and expertise to create engaging in-game experiences for their loyal supporters.”

The latest version of the team app is available for download in the iTunes and Google Play stores.
