TheStadiumBusiness Awards spotlight: #GAME4GRENFELL

Queens Park Rangers’ #GAME4GRENFELL has been nominated in the Event of the Year category at this year’s TheStadiumBusiness Awards.

The match was held at QPR’s Loftus Road stadium on September 2 last year to show support for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire disaster in London on June 14.

The match was contested by two teams consisting of ex-professionals and celebrities. Funds raised by the event were passed on to the London Community Foundation for allocation to the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund, which helped survivors and the wider community in the aftermath of the fire.

More than 2,000 complimentary tickets were issued to those directly affected by the tragedy, with families, emergency services, volunteers, local residents and others involved in the recovery operation having been invited.

The match was organised by the QPR in the Community Trust group, the club’s official charity.

#GAME4GRENFELL is one of six nominees in the Event of the Year category. The others are:

  • First Day-Night Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval, Australia
  • Wrestlemania at Camping World Stadium, City of Orlando Venues, USA
  • NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day at Edgbaston Stadium, UK
  • ‘Battle of Brisbane’ – WBO Title Fight, Suncorp Stadium, Australia
  • Arsenal FC in Sydney Tour, VenuesLive, Australia

The Event of the Year category recognises sports and non-sports events held at a major sports venue in the last 12 months.

This year’s TheStadiumBusiness Awards will take place at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on June 12. A full list of nominees can be found here.
