Jaguars sign development partner for new district

NFL American football team the Jacksonville Jaguars has partnered with The Cordish Companies to aid the development of a new $2.5bn mixed-use district near EverBank Field.

The team has released renderings of the new development, which will seek to create a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood with a host of amenities in the vicinity of EverBank Field.

The development plan has been conceived in partnership with Beyer Blinder Belle and could eventually span 4.25 million square feet in dining, entertainment, retail, office, hotels and luxury residential living.

Cordish developments currently welcome more than 50 million annual visitors, with the company holding partnerships with the likes of the St. Louis Cardinals, Fox Sports, Philadelphia Flyers, Comcast-Spectacor, NBC Sports, Professional Bull Riders, Sporting Kansas City and the Texas Rangers.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan said: “The Cordish Companies understand the challenges and, therefore, the opportunities in reimaging downtown districts and entertainment complexes throughout the country. There are many qualities that make Cordish our choice in Jacksonville, but one in particular is the company’s ability to customise and tailor its approach to the property it will develop while being very mindful of the community it will serve. The first phase of this development will be key, and we do not think we could have chosen a better partner.”

Blake Cordish, vice-president of The Cordish Companies, added: “It is an honour to have been selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Iguana Investments as their development partner in this dynamic vision for the Jacksonville Sports Complex.

“We are committed to delivering a transformational world-class project that will create thousands of new jobs, attract millions of new visitors to the region, and play an important role in the revitalisation of downtown Jacksonville.”
