Piri Weepu, who made over 70 appearances for the New Zealand national rugby union team, has created a special burger for the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
Working as a guest chef alongside the culinary team at the stadium, Weepu came up with the ‘Piri Burger’.
Served in a special stadium bun, the burger features a combination of slow smoked pulled pork, Horopito BBQ sauce, wild fennel and apple slaw.
Weepu said his new creation was inspired by his love of the hunting and the bush, adding: “It’s been a lot of fun working with the Stadium chefs to come up with this burger.
“We focused in on all the flavours that I love, and I really hope the public enjoy what we have come up with.”
Fans can purchase the burger during the upcoming Test match between New Zealand and France at the Westpac Stadium on June 16 for NZ$13.50 (€8/US$9.35/£7).
