Four clubs to trial safe standing in French football

The French Football League (LFP) has announced that four clubs across the top two divisions of the domestic game will trial safe standing during the forthcoming 2018-19 season.

France’s Sports Minister, Laura Flessel, and national supporters’ body the INS have approved the applications of Ligue 1 clubs AS Saint-Etienne and Amiens SC, along with Ligue 2 duo RC Lens and FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.

The trial is open to all professional clubs in France and the Ministry of Sports added that a second wave of clubs could be added to the trial in the autumn if further candidates come forward.

The four clubs will have to bear the costs of adapting their stadia for safe standing, with the trial to be assessed following the end of the 2018-19 season.
