Costs increase for Norwegian football stadium

The construction of the future home stadium of Norwegian Tippeligaen football club Vålerenga will end up costing NOK770m (€83.2m/$92.8m) – NOK50m more than had initially been planned.

The extra money is needed to clear the site of waste such as oil spills and car wrecks, which were found once work began on readying the area for construction. The nearby Valle Hovin ice rink must also be protected while work takes place.

“We take full responsibility for finding solutions to the challenges we face, and we are confident that we will get to it,” said Åge Petter Christiansen, chairman of the Vålerenga Culture and Sports Park, which is behind the stadium project.

Christiansen added to the Dagsavisen newspaper that construction work on the Oslo-based club’s new home ground, which will also provide educational facilities for local children, is expected to be completed by August 2017.
