New York City FC no closer to securing new home

Major League Soccer franchise New York City will not rush into making a decision on a new stadium, team president Jon Patricof has insisted.

New York City, which only entered MLS last year, currently shares Yankee Stadium with Major League Baseball team the New York Yankees.

New York City has the smallest pitch in MLS due to the dimensions of the baseball field at Yankee Stadium, and the club is keen on finding a less restrictive home.

Potential sites have been looked at, although Patricof has admitted that nothing has been decided. “There’s no news on the stadium,” Patricof said, according to the New York Daily News publication.

“We’re working really hard on it. We’re extremely committed to finding a home in the five boroughs. We’re only gonna get to choose a stadium site once, so it has to be right. So we’re working really hard to find the right site.”

Patricof added: “I’m hopeful, but with New York City real estate, the reality is there’s a lot of things that all have to come together for it to work.”
