Four banned from Rio 2016 stadia due to terrorist links – report

Authorities in Brazil have denied four people suspected of having links to terrorist groups from entering stadiums during the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, according to the Daily Mirror.

The UK newspaper reported that four individuals were denied accreditation after Brazil’s anti-terrorism unit and international intelligence teams found connections to extremist groups.

The people, who were not named, had applied for access to the 32 venues that will stage events during the multi-sport showpiece, which takes place from August 5-21.

“There are no risks being taken,” a source told the Daily Mirror. “Everything will be done that is necessary to protect athletes, officials and spectators at the Olympics.”

Around 85,000 police, soldiers and other security personnel will be deployed during the Games.
