J.League teams up with Perform on Smart Stadium project

The J.League, the top tier of club football in Japan, is teaming up with telco Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp and digital sports media group Perform on a new project called Smart Stadium.

The project will initially deliver cutting-edge technology to stadiums belonging to J.League clubs, and will eventually spread to lower-division grounds.

Smart Stadium will fit venues with Wi-Fi and high-quality streaming services, with its aim to provide an enhanced match-day experience for spectators.

Perform said in a statement that Smart Stadium will “create an environment in which fans can instantly check out match statistics, watch playbacks or goal replays, as they are watching the match”.

The announcement coincided with the news that the Japanese Professional Football League organising body had agreed a 10-season broadcast rights deal worth a reported Y200bn (€1.7bn/$1.88bn) with Perform.
