Security measures and hi-tech turf add to Luxembourg stadium costs

A new football stadium in Luxembourg will end up costing €1m ($1.2m) more than first planned.

The venue, located in the town of Kockelscheuer, will now cost €59m. The Luxemburger Wort newspaper reported that Luxembourg City Council Mayor Lydie Polfer put the extra cost down to security cameras and so-called “hybrid turf” having to be installed.

Luxemburger Wort’s report added that constructors will save money on the development of the venue’s underground parking garage.

Work on the stadium is set to begin next year before it opens in 2019.
