Coventry Bees granted new lease on home venue

English motorcycle speedway team the Coventry Bees has been granted a season-long extension to its lease of Brandon Stadium, its home racetrack.

The 2016 season had appeared to be the Elite League outfit’s last at the ground after it was sold for development. The team was expected to rely on a groundshare if it could not find a new venue in time for next year.

But the local Rugby Borough Council has now intervened to offer the team an initial one-year lease, which will become effective on January 1, 2017. The deal includes the option of a further two-year agreement subject to conditions.

“While the long-term future of the Coventry Bees is still a concern, there can be no doubt that this offer has given the speedway team some security in the short term,” Bees owner Mick Horton told the club’s website.
