Rio 2016 round-up: August 12

Each day we take a look at the main stadia and ticketing news from the 2016 Olympic Games.

Games spokesman Mario Andrada insisted that the equestrian centre was not targeted after two separate bullets were found at the venue on Saturday and Wednesday.

A controlled explosion was carried out before the men’s basketball match between Spain and Nigeria at the Olympic Park venue on Thursday night. An anti-bomb police unit was called in after a backpack had been left unattended.

Andrada said organisers were “working on” addressing the issue of empty stadia during the Games. Thousands of tickets have remained unsold for a number of events, leading to sparsely populated venues during the opening week of the Games.

Andrada also confirmed that some 12,000 tickets had been confiscated from illegal touts.

Diving practice sessions were cancelled on Friday morning as organisers sought to address the issue of pool water turning green at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre. Officials earlier in the week confirmed the discolouring would not present a health risk to athletes.
