Budget for Texas high school stadium increased

A new high school stadium in Texas could end up costing $69.9m (€61.7m) – around $7m more than the figure first forecast earlier this year.

The Dallas Morning News newspaper reported that board trustees at McKinney Independent School District were told that the increased budget was a result of higher building costs. District officials said the inflated price of concrete and previously unforeseen road construction work contributed to the rise in cost.

In May, voters approved the development of the new 12,000-capacity stadium as part of a wider scale $220m project at McKinney ISD.

The new budget would make the project one of the most expensive in high school stadium history. Work on the development is expected to begin next month, with a completion date set for late 2017.
