Glass tunnel to be fitted at Etihad Stadium

English Premier League football club Manchester City is to install a new glass tunnel structure at its Etihad Stadium home ground, according to reports.

UK newspaper the Daily Mail and the ESPN FC website, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that the tunnel would be fitted in time for the start of the 2017-18 season.

The glass structure will allow supporters to view players walking to and from the dressing rooms from the comfort of their seats. A new luxury executive lounge will be built, from which fans will be able to watch the teams as they make their way on to the playing field. The dressing rooms will be moved to allow for the tunnel’s construction.

Manchester City would become the first Premier League club to build such a tunnel. NFL American football franchise the Dallas Cowboys has a similar structure at its home ground, AT&T Stadium.

The Etihad last year had its capacity increased to 55,000, when a 6,000-capacity third tier was added to the South Stand, where visiting supporters are housed.
