West Ham resolve seating issue for Europa League clash

West Ham United supporters who were unable to sit in their allocated seats during Sunday’s Premier League football match against Bournemouth were able to do so for yesterday’s (Thursday) Uefa Europa League fixture at London Stadium after the club resolved the issue.

Following Sunday’s game, it emerged that 56 West Ham supporters had been allocated seat numbers that did not exist. The gaffe, which stadium operator LS185 later apologised for, led to fans sitting on concrete slabs at the very back of the ground.

The missing seats were installed in time for last night’s Europa League play-off match against Romanian outfit Astra Giurgiu, which West Ham lost 1-0.

The club insists that fans affected by the blunder were offered alternative seats during the game, but some refused, which led to images circulating on social media of supporters sitting or standing on the concrete slabs.

West Ham said in a statement that such “teething problems” are to be expected as the club gets used to its new 60,000-capacity home. The club also confirmed that it had written to each of the supporters affected by the error.
