Dolphins partner with Uber on stadium initiative

NFL American football team the Miami Dolphins has partnered with transportation company Uber to provide fans with a drop-off and pick-up service at its Hard Rock Stadium home ground on match days.

The deal names Uber as the team’s preferred ride-sharing partner for the 2016 season.

Under the agreement, Dolphins fans will be able to be transported to a designated Uber zone at Hard Rock Stadium in time for the start of the match. After the game has finished, fans requiring a lift from an Uber driver will receive a notification on their mobile device detailing the parking spot where they will be picked up from.

An Uber Tailgate initiative has also been launched, whereby fans can buy a tailgate experience that includes a grill, charcoal, table, chairs and a tent. Twenty Uber Tailgate spots will be dotted around Hard Rock Stadium.

“There’s still no better experience than to be at the game,” Dolphins president and chief executive Tom Garfinkel said. “You want to be there when the big play happens or when the big game is won. It’s still better than being at home.

“As (Uber chief executive Travis Kalanick) spoke about the future of transportation, I wanted to make sure that we were ahead of it, that we were thinking five years down the road in renovating this wonderful Hard Rock Stadium to think about the future of transportation, not just where it is today.”

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Hard Rock Stadium, previously known as Sun Life Stadium, will be ready to stage the Dolphins’ pre-season game against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday.

Delays in construction work at the ground had placed the fixture in doubt earlier in the summer, with the Dolphins’ August 25 clash with the Atlanta Falcons having to be moved to Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
