Fans flock to Anfield to sample new Main Stand

English Premier League football club Liverpool earlier this week staged the second of two open days at Anfield as the countdown continues to the team's first match at the stadium since its summer redevelopment.

Over 10,000 supporters turned up to the event on Monday to sample the stadium’s new Main Stand, with a similar event having taken place last Friday. Monday’s event featured a training session with Liverpool’s women’s and U23 teams. Fans were able to sample the stand's new menu, while entertainment was also provided.

Meanwhile, the Main Stand’s Carlsberg Dugout luxury suite is beginning to take shape with a number of memorable Liverpool moments from over the years having been illustrated on the walls. The lounge will have a capacity of 2,000.

In other news, Liverpool today (Wednesday) announced a partnership with the Stagecoach Bus company to make it easier for fans to get to and from Anfield on match days. Supporters will be able to take the 917 Stagecoach bus from St John’s Lane to the ground, and the service will depart Walton Breck Road after games.

The redeveloped Anfield will have a capacity of around 53,000. The Main Stand will officially be opened ahead of Liverpool’s first Premier League home match of the season against Leicester City on September 10.
