Potential site for Grimsby stadium discussed by council

Grimsby’s Peaks Parkway has been picked as a potential site for a new community stadium in the English town.

Grimsby’s Peaks Parkway has been picked as a potential site for a new community stadium in the English town.

Members of North East Lincolnshire Council met yesterday (Wednesday) to discuss six potential sites. The Peaks Parkway site has been chosen as a so-called 'reference site' for the project.

The viability and suitability of the five other locations will be measured against the Peaks Parkway site. The council said a detailed study of the site will now take place, with a future cabinet meeting to be carried out before the end of November to discuss the findings.

“We’re determined to see a new community stadium built in this borough, but we must follow a strict process when there’s the potential for public property and resources to be used,” Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for regeneration, skills and housing at the council, said.

“We want to get the best deal for the borough, but this doesn’t happen overnight. So far 16 potential sites have been looked at and at cabinet today we considered a more detailed availability-based report into a shortlist of six.

“These are encouraging times for North East Lincolnshire and a new community stadium will bring huge benefits to the borough – for the local economy and people’s general well-being.”

League Two football club Grimsby Town favours the Peaks Parkway site as a location for its new home stadium.
