Dublin council snaps up Shelbourne’s Tolka Park

Dublin City Council is reported to have acquired the lease for Tolka Park, the home of Irish football club Shelbourne.

Dublin City Council is reported to have acquired the lease for Tolka Park, the home of Irish football club Shelbourne.

The north Dublin club will ultimately leave its Drumcondra home and share Dalymount Park with Bohemian FC when the rebuilt stadium opens in the coming years, according to the SportsJoe.ie news website.

As part of the agreement, Bohemian FC will move to Tolka Park while construction work takes place at Dalymount Park, the report added.

"We hope to be in a position to announce our part in the project in the coming weeks," a Shelbourne spokesperson said.

"We expect to be relinquishing our interests in Tolka Park and moving to a revamped Dalymount as co-anchor tenants with Bohemians. But as the plans for the new stadium have neither been drawn up, or discussed in detail, yet we will not be commenting further at this stage."

Dalymount Park will become a 10,000-seat stadium following its renovation. To read our interview with Bohemian FC director Daniel Lambert about the project, click here.
