Atlético fans commit to new stadium

Atlético Madrid has said that 4,500 supporters have signed up for season tickets at the Spanish Liga football club’s new stadium, due for completion in time for the 2017-18 season.

The renovated Estadio Olímpico de Madrid will have a capacity of 73,729, which is significantly more than the club’s current Vicente Calderón Stadium home.

Supporters were initially critical of the project and were keen for the team to remain at Vicente Calderón Stadium, which has been Atlético’s home since 1966.

However, a report by Fox Sports suggests fans are coming around to the idea of a new stadium, with thousands of supporters having signed up for a season ticket scheme that launched on July 21.
