Mercedes-Benz Superdome to save millions through Siemens partnership

The Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District (LSED), which owns the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, has teamed up with the building technologies division of engineering giant Siemens to improve the New Orleans arena’s technological capacity.

The 10-year agreement is projected to save the LSED more than $6.5m (£4.9/€5.8m).

Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which serves as the home of the New Orleans Saints NFL American football franchise, will have its lighting, temperature systems and energy management capabilities enhanced through the partnership.

“This is another important step we are taking to preserve the iconic Mercedes-Benz Superdome,” Kyle France, the LSED’s chairman said. “The Superdome is a 41-year-old building and some of the equipment is original to when the stadium is first built.

“The savings realised through this project will have a huge impact. We spend about $5m in utilities annually, so even a small percentage in savings turns into real dollars for our operations.”

As well as having financial benefits, the LSED’s partnership with Siemens will cut the Superdome’s energy use by 6.2 million kWh each year.

The 1,500 metal halide lights inside the stadium have been replaced by 500 LED lights, while Siemens has also installed its state-of-the-art Demand Flow energy-saving service.

In addition, the Siemens Navigator software will allow stadium staff to manage the facility’s performance and energy more easily.
