Main stand at Cagliari stadium to be relocated

The main stand at Stadio Sant'Elia, the home stadium of Cagliari, will be moved later this season as part of an ongoing process that will eventually lead to the construction of a new ground for the Italian Serie A football club.

The stand will be moved to the car park at some point between February and March next year, Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini said, according to Italian news agency Ansa.

“It would mean that things are going as we wish them to go,” he said.

In June, the Regional Council of Sardinia gave the go-ahead for plans to develop a new 21,000-capacity stadium on the site of Stadio Sant'Elia.

The Cagliari development is a project supported and led by B Futura, a company established last year by the Lega Serie B second tier in order to oversee stadium projects in Italy.
