West Ham keen to address London Stadium issues

English Premier League football club West Ham United yesterday (Monday) held what it described as a “productive” meeting with E20, the owners of London Stadium, following unrest at the ground on Saturday.

West Ham’s 4-2 defeat against Watford at the weekend was marred by trouble that is said to have broken out between home fans and stewards. A segregation line between both sets of supporters was also breached. West Ham at the weekend threatened individuals involved in the scuffles with lifetime stadium bans.

The club does not hold the safety certificate and is therefore not responsible for the security at the stadium. However West Ham said it is doing “everything possible within its jurisdiction” to resolve the situation.

Stadium operator LS185 holds the safety certificate and West Ham has called on the company to enhance the stewarding and security operation, both in terms of numbers and with regards to the training staff members receive.

Immediate steps have been taken to improve the situation before West Ham’s next home fixture against Southampton on September 25, with a “more robust” segregation line to be introduced between sets of supporters.
