Nation-E warns stadia of cyber threats

Cyber protection firm Nation-E has revealed that US sports stadia are at risk of being attacked due to a number of exposed layers within their operations that make them targets.

Nation-E believes that, while the centralised systems used by the majority of stadia can bring greater efficiency and enhance safety, in some cases they can make venues more likely to be targeted.

Nation-E’s chief executive, Idan Udi Edry, will make a formal announcement on the threats at the Cyber Security Summit in New York on September 21.

Edry said: “Since any connected device that controls critical functions within a stadium is vulnerable, hackers who manage to penetrate the BMS can inflict devastating damage to key operations.

“We have seen examples of these kinds of attacks for many years. Now, as hackers gain confidence with their cyber-attack capabilities, the need for a cutting-edge, extensive and preventive approach for cyber threats has become paramount.”
