Notre Dame Stadium shines with new lighting system

The University of Notre Dame in the US hopes to enhance its sports entertainment capabilities following the installation of a new LED lighting system at its football stadium.

Supplied by Musco, the system was used for the first time on Saturday during the collegiate American football match between Notre Dame and Michigan State.

The stadium will now benefit from precise light control, with customised optics directing light onto the field and minimising glare for fans, as well as a range of energy savings and efficiency features. In addition, DMX effects allow for pre-show and half-time lighting displays.

Paul Kempf, senior director of utilities and maintenance at the University of Notre Dame, said: “We are pleased to once again partner with Musco to equip one of our facilities, in this case the iconic Notre Dame Stadium, with an innovative and leading-edge lighting solution. We are impressed with the performance, efficiency and controllability of this new system and look forward to the benefits it will provide for decades to come."

Jeff Rogers, president of Musco World, added: “The university’s commitment to entertainment innovation and sustainability will be fulfilled with a lighting system that reduces energy consumption and offers a premier visual experience for fans and television broadcasts.”

Musco, which partnered with the university for more than 30 years, also has its technology placed in a number of other major sports facilities such as the AT&T Stadium, the home of NFL American football team the Dallas Cowboys.
