Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena has had a new pitch laid after the previous surface was attacked by a fungal infection.
The German Bundesliga football club noted a deterioration in the standard of the pitch at the start of the 2016-17 season, and experts suggested the damage was permanent.
The club decided to tear up the existing hybrid grass turf last Monday and Tuesday, with a new natural grass surface laid on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the home game against FC Koln at the weekend.
Unfortunately, the new pitch proved unlucky for Bayern as the club dropped its first points of the season with a 1-1 draw.
