Roughriders reveal local support for new stadium

The Saskatchewan Roughriders Canadian Football League gridiron team has been boosted by a public opinion poll that showed more than three-quarters of local residents are in favour of the almost-complete New Mosaic Stadium.

Conducted by Mainstreet Research, the poll said that 76 per cent of residents in Regina approve of the plans, with 51 per cent ‘strongly’ approving. In contrast, just 13 per cent were against the proposals, while 11 per cent remain undecided.

Due to open in time for the 2017 Canadian Football League season, the facility has already hosted a number of test events, including a university American football game earlier this month that was disrupted by problems with the water supply. The New Mosaic Stadium will have a standard capacity of 33,000 seats, although this can be expanded to 40,000 for special events.
The Mainstreet Research poll also questioned local residents as to whether their opinion on the stadium had changed over time, with 43 per cent saying that their view had improved from when the plans were first announced five years ago.

A total of 39 per cent of respondents said their opinion was unchanged, while just seven per cent said their viewpoint had worsened in that time.
