King of Morocco plans ‘ultra-modern’ stadium in Tanzania

Tanzania

King Mohamed VI of Morocco has pledged to build an ‘ultra-modern’ stadium in the Tanzanian capital city of Dodoma, following an agreement between the two countries.

According to the AllAfrica.com website, Tanzanian President John Magufuli said that a number of Moroccan companies have signed deals with several entities in Tanzania’s private sector to construct what will be the largest stadium in the African nation.

President Magufuli said the new facility will serve as a sports complex and help to boost Tanzania’s sports sector, with a particular focus on football. He added that the project will cost between $80m (£66m/€73.3m) and $100m.

“I had a tete-a-tete with the visiting King and I asked him if he can help build a stadium in Dodoma… he said yes he will,” Magufuli said. “It will be bigger and better than the current national stadium.”

No further details about the stadium were announced, including the expected capacity or timeline.
