Celtic considers hotel development

Scottish Premier League football club Celtic is considering plans to build a new hotel next to its Parkhead stadium in Glasgow.

Feasibility and market research studies for the 200-room development, which would open up a new revenue stream, have been initiated by the club’s directors, according to the Scottish Daily Mail newspaper.

The proposed four-star hotel would be situated on the corner of Clyde Gateway, where the club’s ticket offices are currently based.

Celtic recently submitted a planning application to Glasgow City Council to install a new LED screen at Parkhead. The report said that decision on whether to submit a formal application for the proposed hotel project would be made in the New Year.

The newspaper noted that Celtic’s second-largest shareholder, Chris Trainer, recently unveiled plans to build a new Radisson RED hotel on the banks of the Clyde, with his Forrest Group reportedly aiming to move into the hotel sector.

The possible cost of the hotel development has not been disclosed, but Celtic’s participation in this season’s Uefa Champions League European club competition will boost the coffers.
