NTT installs innovative Smart Stadium solution in Saitama

Telecommunications company NTT Group has installed a commercial Wi-Fi multicast service at the NACK5 Stadium Omiya in Saitama, Japan.

The product, called Smart Stadium, uses multicast support from mobile technology and video-streaming provider Expway.

Smart Stadium allows for coverage of the game from different angles to be synchronised to more than 15,000 spectators in the stadium. The fans simply need to download the Omiya Ardija application to their smartphone.

The app provides three channels. One offers live game coverage from broadcaster Sky PerfecTV, while the second offers replays and highlights. The third channel allows fans to follow a particular player on the pitch.

The app also provides detailed information and statistics about the game and individual players, and enables fans to receive discount vouchers from nearby shops and restaurants.

The coverage is provided via various Wi-Fi Access Points simultaneously, with no interruption of service and no loss in the video quality despite minimal bandwidth usage, according to Expway.

According to Expway, NTT Group plans to roll out the Smart Stadium product across multiple stadia in Japan “soon”.

The NACK5 Stadium Omiyastadium is the home of top-tier Japanese J.League football club Omiya Ardija.
