Populous to design temporary golf venue in Vegas

Major Series of Putting (MSOP) is to build a new state-of-the-art temporary sports venue in the US city of Las Vegas to serve as the host of the first edition of a new golf series.

The venue will be located one block off the Las Vegas Strip, adjacent to Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The series, which MSOP claims will be the largest putting tournament in history, is due to start next March.

MSOP plans to construct a temporary venue designed by leading architecture firm Populous. The venue is set to feature live leaderboards, grandstand seating, a club house, restaurant and sports bar.

“Our vision is to design a sports venue where spectators will have clear views of all 18 holes from every seat in the house,” Jeff Keas, senior principal at Populous, said. “Our goal is to create an atmosphere that is welcoming to professional and amateur golfers alike.”

The series will offer millions in prize money and will feature a 20,000-square-foot, 18-hole par-36 putting course created by golf course design firm, Nicklaus Design, which was founded by golf legend Jack Nicklaus.
