Real Madrid's Bernabeu could stage UFC event

Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, the home stadium of Real Madrid, could be set to stage an Ultimate Fighting Championship event after the Spanish LaLiga football club confirmed it was considering a proposal to host a round of the mixed martial arts series.

The ESPN FC website, citing a club source, reported that a promoter has proposed to stage a UFC event at the 85,000-capacity venue and negotiations are now ongoing.

Current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been suggested as a potential fighter for a headline bout in the Spanish capital.

“When the season ends, the club holds many events in the stadium,” the source told ESPN FC. “There can be music concerts and different events. This promoter has made a proposal, as many companies do, and there are negotiations ongoing.

“We will study the proposal, as we do with all the proposals we receive. It depends on whether economically it is interesting for Real Madrid, on whether the dates can be found, and other factors. But if it all fits then perfect. The same as with the more than 100 events that are held at the stadium each summer.”
