Brighton brings in VR to family stand

English Football League Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion will make virtual reality headsets available to families at home games from later this month.

From the Brighton v Aston Villa game on November 18, the headsets will be exclusively available for spectators in the Amex Stadium’s family stand.

The technology was tested out at the stadium for Brighton’s match at home to Norwich City on October 29, providing fans with close-up views of the players as they warmed up before the clash and made their way through the tunnel onto the pitch at the start of the game.

The VR devices can also take the spectator to the heart of goal celebrations.

“We are always looking at ways to improve the matchday experience at the Amex,” Brighton’s head of marketing, Tom Gorringe, said.

“We are proud of our reputation as providing the best experience in the EFL and it's our aim to offer new and exciting opportunities to fans of all ages.

“The virtual reality experience is completely unique. All of the footage was shot live at a match and it takes you into the heart of the action to places that fans wouldn’t be able to go.”

“The other aspects of the stand are interactive and in some aspects, educational, and so we hope that this will prove extremely popular with our supporters.”

The headsets are among a series of additions to the stadium’s facilities in the family stand, which also now features new artwork, interactive quizzes, a replica dugout and a wall reaction game.
