Huge video scoreboard to be installed at expanding Orlando stadium

A huge video scoreboard is set to be installed at the new home of the Orlando City North American Major League Soccer franchise in the next two weeks.

The club confirmed the installation in the southeast corner of the venue as it gave an update on the development of its new 25,500-capacity stadium, which will open next year.

Seats are currently being installed at the facility, while signage, designed by Populous will be put in no later than February 1.

The all-grass pitch will be laid in mid-December, with extensive banners that will encase the exterior of the structure being put up at the same time.

Phil Rawlins, the franchise’s founding owner, said that the construction process is now 80-per-cent complete and is set to be completed ahead of the start of the 2017 campaign.

“The seats going in makes the dream a reality at this stage,” he told MLSSoccer.com. “This is really close to what I envisaged it would be. We have made a couple of minor adjustments along the way, but this is the picture I had in my mind from day one.”

Rawlins also suggested that the stadium could be expanded in the future.

“At the time we had to make our decisions, I felt we made all the right ones,” he said. “This will be a great home. It will be packed to the rafters every week and will be the loudest and most atmospheric stadium in the country, and we have a waiting list of more than 1,500. Will we eventually take the decision to expand it? We will wait and see, but it’s likely we will.”
