Sodexo settles baseball lawsuit

A lawsuit has been settled between the owners of the former Joplin Blasters baseball team in the US and the Sodexo Operations catering provider.

The original suit was filed in May and although details of the settlement were not disclosed, both parties have agreed to dismiss their claims and counter-claims in the case.

Sodexo filed the original lawsuit, claiming that it was owed $187,124 (£148,345/€171,932) by the baseball group after a five-year deal to provide food and drink services in consession stands at Joe Becker Stadium was cancelled. The amount included an original investment by Sodexo and inventory that was left at the stadium.

According to the lawsuit, the Blasters informed Sodexo earlier this year that the team's owners were curtailing the contract because they “failed to meet the goals of its season projections and as a result had to make deep cuts in the concession management/services.”

In a counter-claim, the Blasters said that they were owed money by Sodexo for consession sales.

The agreement came about after the two sides agreed to participate in mediation and the settlement was confirmed in Springfield’s US District Court, according to the Joplin Globe newspaper.
