University of Nebraska wins approval for $6.25m screen upgrade

Nebraska

The University of Nebraska has secured approval to carry out a screen installation project worth $6.25m (€5.9m/£5.1m) at its American football stadium.

Local newspaper the Lincoln Journal Star reports that the University’s Board of Regents voted unanimously in favour of the project, which will see 10-year-old screens replaced with new technology. Work will be funded entirely by revenue from the US University’s athletics department.

Hank Bounds, president of the University of Nebraska, said the screens will have to be replaced, rather than upgraded, as parts for the existing technology are no longer available.

“Signs of failure have been appearing to fans this season,” Bounds said. “We believe our fans deserve and expect a high quality experience in this historic venue.”

The new high-definition screens, which will replace all existing instalments at the Memorial Stadium, will last for a minimum of 10 years.
