Hertha Berlin to push ahead with new stadium plans

Hertha

German Bundesliga football club Hertha Berlin has moved a step closer to the construction of a new stadium by revealing a number of potential sites for the proposed facility.

The club, which recently signed a lease to remain at its current Olympiastadion home until 2025, has identified locations in urban areas of Berlin, as well as on the outskirts of the city, according to the BZ-berlin.de website

Dreilinden in the south-west of Berlin has been highlighted as potential site, with the club also looking at locations near to Berlin Tegel Airport and further afield in Brandenburg.

Club president Werner Gegenbauer said: “The assignment for the architects is not just design, there are first scouting results for areas for a stadium. In January or February, we will publicise the results and propose the locations to them.

“For concrete sites, it is much too early. But our thoughts need not stop at the city limits.”
