Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium fitted with SISGrass technology

AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium has been fitted with SISGrass hybrid turf technology, becoming the first English Premier League football ground to have the surface installed.

The pitch was fitted inside 10 days last month ahead of Bournemouth’s thrilling 4-3 home win over Liverpool yesterday (Sunday).

British company SIS Pitches fitted the revolutionary system into the existing turf at the Vitality Stadium.

The system is made up of 95 per cent natural turf and five per cent PE yarn, which is stitched into the ground. SIS Pitches claims the surface offers “increased pitch stability” and delivers “considerably more playing hours” than a natural grass surface.

Robin Wilcox, Bournemouth’s head groundsman, said: “The new pitch looks great and feels fantastic underfoot.

“A good playing surface is crucial when it comes to performance and preventing injuries and I’m sure the squad will reap the benefits as we head into the second half of the season.”

SISGrass technology is also used at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium, where the 2018 Fifa World Cup final will be staged, as well as the Ta’Qali National Stadium in Malta and the Vodafone Arena, home of Turkish club Besiktas.

The system is also used at the training grounds of Chelsea, Hull City, Fulham, Derby County, Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona, and at the National Football Centre at St George’s Park, home of the English Football Association.
