Cricket exec added to Perth Stadium management team

Chris Loftus-Hills has been appointed to the management team for the under-construction Perth Stadium in Australia.

Loftus-Hills will serve as the general manager of events and operations at the stadium, taking up his position with the VenueLives management team on January 16.

He will join the team after having spent 11 years at the Cricket Australia national governing body, where he served as head of events and match operations. While at Cricket Australia, Loftus-Hills helped lead the body’s significant growth in its events programme and drove its national events team.

Loftus-Hills has contributed significantly to other stadium redevelopments in Australia, providing an expert view on creating industry-leading cricket facilities and providing world-class fan experiences.

The appointment of Loftus-Hills comes after Mike McKenna, who played a major role in the launch of Australia’s Big Bash League cricket tournament, joined the Perth Stadium management team in September.

McKenna said: “I had the pleasure of working alongside Chris for 11 years at Cricket Australia and I know he will be a great asset for our VenuesLive team that will operate the new Perth Stadium. Over the past four years, Chris has worked with the WA Government on the arrangements for cricket to play at Perth Stadium and has been intimately involved in the design of the venue to accommodate cricket matches.

“Chris led Cricket Australia’s involvement in the process to produce the cricket wickets that will be dropped in when the venue hosts cricket matches. This is a key appointment to my Perth Stadium management team and I look forward to welcoming Chris to the stadium team.”

Last month, Brad Paatsch, formerly of AFL Aussie rules football club the Fremantle Dockers, was appointed as the new chief operating officer of Perth Stadium.

The multi-purpose, 60,000-capacity Perth Stadium is scheduled to open in March 2018 and will host AFL and cricket matches, as well as football, rugby union, rugby league and live entertainment events. VenuesLive said over the weekend that the facility is “more than 63 per cent complete”.
