Developer proposes new site for Las Vegas NFL stadium

Real estate developer Fred Nassiri has put forward another possible location for the new NFL American football stadium that is set to be constructed in Las Vegas.

Local authorities had agreed on two potential sites for the facility, but Nassiri has now suggested another location in the Nevada city at Blue Diamond Road and Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Nassiri will present his proposal to the new Stadium Authority Board at its first meeting today (Monday), with the Las Vegas Sun newspaper reporting that the developer will focus on the site’s location near to Interstate 15, the 215 Beltway and Blue Diamond Road as major plus points.

Former Nevada lieutenant governor Lorraine Hunt-Bono has spoken positively about the latest location option, describing it as “outstanding”.

“More importantly, all the infrastructure is there. It has plenty of ingress and egress traffic routes, and I just think it’s ideal,” said Hunt-Bono, who served as lieutenant governor from 2001 to 2007.

“The only reason I could see they wouldn’t consider the site was if the owners were asking some exorbitant amount of money, but from what I’ve heard it’s a reasonable price. Last year when I looked at the prices I thought it was maybe 10 per cent over what the market might be, and that’s pretty reasonable.”

The 65,000-seat stadium is set to be the future home of the Oakland Raiders, which hopes to relocate from California to Las Vegas.
