Green Italia founder backs Stadio della Roma

A prominent Italian ecologist and green politician has given his backing to the proposed new stadium of Serie A football club AS Roma.

Stadio della Roma will have a range of sustainable features, according to Roberto Della Seta, the founder of environmental group Green Italia, former head of Legambiente (the League for the Environment) and one-time Democratic Party parliamentarian.

Della Seta said that the venue is not just an example of ‘smart’ urban regeneration in an area of the Italian capital, but also adheres to the highest green standards.

Della Seta also paid tribute to a commitment on clean energy at the construction site, which will come from various renewable sources, as well as a focus on waste management and water recycling.

Scheduled to open in August 2019, the stadium will have a capacity of 52,500.

Last month Andreas Kipar, founding partner of the LAND architectural firm which designed the stadium, said the complex will serve as an example of environmental sustainability.
