AFL hires events specialists to transform stadium for Shanghai game

The AFL Aussie rules football league has appointed events company Juss Events to help transform the Jiangwan Stadium in Shanghai for the clash between Port Adelaide and Gold Coast next year.

The two teams will travel to China for the round eight match, which will be the first game to be played for AFL league points in China. Port Adelaide and Gold Coast will face off on May 14 in the 25,000-seat arena, which usually hosts athletics meets.

Juss Events, which has supported major events such as the Shanghai round of the Formula 1 motor-racing championship, will now support the league in ensuring the venue is ready to host the AFL clash. The stadium previously staged an AFL game in 2010, when Melbourne and Brisbane Lions played in an exhibition match.

Travis Auld, league operations executive for the AFL, said: “They're a really well qualified organisation and an important partner for us. So, much of the work on the ground can be done by them now.

“There will be some visits required from different people within the organisation between now and the game, but a large portion will be able to be carried out on the ground by Juss Events.”
