Fans set to toast victory at new Perth Stadium

Tenders have been put forward to build a new bar and microbrewery near to the under-construction Perth Stadium in Australia.

According to the WAtoday.com.au website, the Riverbridge Bar would be placed next to the Swan River pedestrian bridge, which itself is yet to be finished.

The project includes a refurbishment of the existing Burswood Park Golf Course, with work, scheduled to commence in February, expected to cost up to A$15m (€10.5m/US$10.9m/£8.8m).

An alcohol licence for the bar was conditionally granted in September, with Tim McLernon, entrepreneur and former manager of the Subiaco Hotel, believed to be the driving force behind the project.

Cricket Australia last week said it hopes the 60,000-capacity Perth Stadium will be completed in time to host the Ashes Test between Australia and England in December 2017. However, the stadium’s official website gives the 2018 AFL Australian rules season, likely to start in March of that year, as its target date.
