SIS Pitches adds Rostov Arena to World Cup venue portfolio

Artificial turf manufacturer SIS Pitches has been given the green light to install a new hybrid pitch at Rostov Arena, one of the host venues for football’s Fifa World Cup in Russia in 2018.

The 45,000-capacity Rostov Arena becomes the third World Cup venue to be fitted with an SISGrass hybrid pitch, along with Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium and Spartak Stadium.

As well as installing the hybrid pitch, SIS Pitches, a British company, will oversee the designing stage and provide full maintenance throughout the World Cup at Rostov Arena, which is still under construction.

“It’s fantastic to have been given the green light to begin work on a third pitch out in Russia,” SIS Pitches chief executive and owner George Mullan said. “The quality of SISGrass will ensure that the pitches are resilient in all conditions, and I am sure the competition is one that we all remember.

“At SIS Pitches we have had a fantastic 2016 and whilst we all have new challenges and goals for the next 12 months, we already enter 2017 on a high.”

Once completed, Rostov Arena will serve as the home of Russian Premier League side FC Rostov.

SIS Pitches has also carried out work at Krasnodar Stadium over the past 12 months. The venue is on the reserve list of stadia for the 2018 World Cup, which will mark the first edition of the tournament to have SISGrass natural turf-reinforced pitches.

SISGrass is an advanced reinforced turf system featuring patented fibre injections. The system ensures increased pitch stability and SIS Pitches claims that it delivers considerably more playing hours than natural grass surfaces.
